Open World StorytellingBy: Ben Jaekle

We create wacky sandboxes where anything can happen.  How can game developers possibly tell a story in that sort of environment?  There are a few solid guidelines you need to keep your game’s tale afloat in an ocean of possibilities.  Using examples from Avalanche games and others across the genre, we’ll explore the ways Open World Sandbox narratives successfully embrace their weird conundrums, and boil those successes down to some key rules for succeeding and excelling in open world storytelling.

Benjamin Jaekle is an NYC-based game developer.  He served as a producer and a writer on Just Cause 3 and its DLC.  Now he’s designing narrative for an unannounced project at Avalanche Studios.

Space is limited and attendance is by invitation only. Register here to express your interest. If selected, you will receive a confirmation email with event details.
